I'll be installing a Visioneer 6600 One Touch scanner on a Win XP Home pc.
Since the lady lost her installation disk, I am getting the drivers from Visioneer's site. I ran into a little confusion.
There is a 6600.exe driver and upon further searching, I found a driver for One Touch.
Question is, which one do I use or are they both used?
TIA

Carl

Thank you but I have my answer. I need to read things a little closer.

Use the .exe file. The One Touch is the name that will show up in the Add/Remove Programs area. You'll probably also want the Paper Port software that comes with the unit to handle the scans.

Thanks Panama...

You'll probably also want the Paper Port software that comes with the unit to handle the scans.

I think I'll wait til I get to her place and d/l the Paperport s/w at that time. She can do that herself when she sees what she really wants/needs.
(Can you tell that this hasn't been easy?)

Thanks,
Carl

Yea, Visioneer's can be a real pain in the tush. If I remember right you can't connect the device to the computer until after the driver is installed. And if it was ever installed before, you have to remove all of the old stuff first. Visioneer has a detailed troubleshooting/installtion guide on their site. Good luck.

Unfortunately, you cannot download Paperport. It's commercial software.

Mornin' glc,
The lady must have had Paper Port at one time but has lost the disk. When I first got the pc in a non-working condition, I noticed a program called Paper Port in Program files and in Add/Remove. It is now uninstalled.
Maybe next time she will keep an eye on all of her installation disks.
Thanks for saving me a lot of searching for freeware.

Paperport is a great program but I cant see many home users wanting or needing it. Unless they are trying to keep track of thousands of documents. If you have lots of electronic documents that you need to refer to often its very handy. If not windows explorer is more than sufficient.

Tuf, the problem is this - Visioneer packs Paperport with their scanners to handle OCR and scan management. The only other software they include is some cheap photo editor by ArcSoft.

Oh really I didn't know that. I know that I can send scans directly to Paperport but I never do, I want them in a format other people can use should I need to send them off my network. I use Omnipage Pro for OCR recognition, although I dont use it often.

Honestly though unless she can find or replace her CD it might just be cheaper and easier to buy another scanner if she is dead set on Paperport.

I have a Visioneer 8700 USB. I got it for $24.99 total AR, delivered. It came with Paper Port and Text Bridge. The software is worth more than the deivce. For what scanning I do, it's real handy and simple.

The only thing that was weird is that when I want to fax multiple scans from the scanner, I have to rename the files I have scanned otherwise my fax program won't pick them up. After I figued out that, it's all good!

I have two Win 98boxes on my home network. I have an HP 6200Cxi flatbed scanner with document feeder installedthat is shared by remote PC's. Some software I bought a long time ago is Papermaster98 made by Documagix. This is a great software and I understand it was bought out and is now being marketed by another company. I have Textbridge Pro 9.0 as an OCR software but I hate it.
