the hard drive specs say ATA 33/66/100 enhanced ide (pio mode 4)
the laptop drive i am looking at say's IDE ultra ATA-6 will it work, here it is

i wanted to order it before she got here.thank you
Laptop hard drives are essentially universal, ANY 2.5" 9.5mm high drive will work. Ultra ATA-6 is the same thing as ATA100. Might want to reconsider the brand - Seagate drives now come with a 5 year warranty.

Have her bring all the install, recovery,or restore CDs that came with the laptop so that you have the drivers for that particular laptop.
If she has a lot of data, you will want a kit to "clone" the old drive to the new one.

I would ghost the drive, then upgrade it, I would also suggest going to a 7200rpm, it is a nice speed upgrade. You will not need to go to the website and download anything.

thanx for the feed back everyone :)
7200 rpm laptop drives are not very common and quite pricey. Because of the smaller platters, a 5400 rpm drive performs like a 7200 rpm 3.5" drive.
Gonna need some kind of kit (such as I linked to) to ghost a laptop drive - unless that laptop can accept a second hard drive in one of the bays.
