I'm building a comp for a friend, and I was going to get him the tried-and-true 5224A when I noticed Asus has a new model out.
Is the new Asus CRW-5232AS the same as the Asus CRW-5224A (besides the 5232 having a faster rewrite speed and having "QuietTrack")?
Thanks.

Ummm, why are you worrying about a cdwriter ? They all cost about the same anyways and there are no real differences between them anymore. If you want to give him a really good cdwriter, take a look at Plextor drives. All the rest is just about the same these days :)
Edit : I'm just trying to explain why nobody is answering your question, the truth is I wouldn't know which cdwriter is better than the other, they almost don't get reviewed anymore :D

No offense intended, but shows how much you don't know. There's many differences. First of all, not all burners are 2 sheep (capable of correct EFM encoding) and even of those that are, not all are capable of reading/writing newer safedisc 3 protection.
I was able to find out the answer to my question: yes, the 5232AS is the same as the 5224A except for rewrite speed and QuietTrack.
