What are the benefits or problems with setting up hard drives as dynamic or basic?

I believe that only XP PRO will boot from a dynamic disk, so keep that in mind.

Dynamic disks have performance overheads for features that you likely don't need.

Go here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;309044&sd=tech#4) for good information, including how to convert a disk. If you want to know more, click the first link under "References" at the bottom. It talks about Win2k, but the features described are applicable.
