hard drive size

how do you know how big a hard drive your motherboard can take

mine is a shop bought one i got a few weeks ago, it uses ddr ram and has an agp card port so it is quite a new board but i didnt get a motherboard manual, it has a bios date of 2003 and i am running xp home

what do you recon the limit is ?

above 200mb?

If you have SP1 you should be able to use any size HDD, even that new 400 GB monster.

i thought it was the motherboard that makes the decision on the barrier

i checked the win xp and it is service pack 1 but in the past it has been the bios that has limited the size of the drive, how do i tell what maximum size drive the motherboard will take as i havent got a motherboard manual

You don't have to check it. Your mainboard is new enough to be able to take any hard drive size. As long as you use an SATA or ATA133 connector, it will work for all current hard disks. Also, you can use Everest (http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en) to get the name of your mb.

It's not *guaranteed* that it will break 137 gigs, that's why we need to know the motherboard model.

any help on max hard drive size would be much appreciated

That board is new enough I'm 99% sure it will go over 137 gigs no problem.
