When i bought my laptop i didn't like using the built in mouse so i went out and bought a normal USB one that you would use on any other machine.

the problem is that every so often the mouse stop's responding and in order to get it working again i need to unplug it and plug it back in again.

This is realy starting to bug now

what could the problem be?

I bought a Logitech ball mouse once that did the same thing after a couple months. I never figured out how to fix it so I just bought an optical mouse and it still works today.

The one i'm using is an optical mouse, and is made bythe same people who made my laptop - Packard Bell

I have a similar problem. I need to plug it every time I start the laptop.
Initially after unistalling drivers everything works fine, but that it detects a ps/2 mouse (the touchpad) and after restarting the usb mouse stops working. I tried installing uninstalling the mouseware or using windows deafult drivers and the problem continues always. The mouse is a Logitech Trackman marble. I am not sure, but I think the problem was the same with the wirless mouse i had before, because i need to press the buttons they had in order to activate it, almost every time i restarted computer

Go into device manager - and open the properties of all your USB root hubs. Make sure you don't have power management enabled on them.

I disabled power management in the ports but the problem is still there
