View Full Version : What are your pet peeves?
Spartan

Is there something that people do that just bugs you to no end? One of my biggest pet peeves is when you set an appointment to see someone and they leave you waiting while they finish something else up. That really irritates me. I have walked out of peoples offices for that. The purpose of the appointment is so you will be free at that time, not to make someone wait on you. I generally give them the benefit of the doubt for a few minutes but it really annoys me. Here on the forums it sometimes bothers me when I see people post in the wrong spot, especially if it is way off like a OS question in general hardware. Or when you spend time helping someone and they don't post whether the help fixed the problem. I like knowing that the problem is fixed so I can remember what it took to fix it. it also makes archive seaches more helpful.
Anyone else?

edit: just thought I would add please don't post flames or jabs at anyone in particular or a post in particular, I'm sure the mods won't tolerate that

Second you Spartan on your two, HAL and j4ck you as well :)
Add too it:
People talking TOO loud on cell phones in restaraunts, elevators, any "quieter" place, I mean, answering it and saying in a *normal* tone let me call ya back or whatever is cool. . .but some people. . .
anyone who doesn't know how to drive, or can't read signs, doesn't look any further than the hood ornament on their car! etc
people who call you at work for a legitimate business transaction, then put you on hold for 10+ minutes because someone "beeps in" (grrr, sorry that one happened today! ;) )
typos and *really* poor grammar
my biggest "pet" peeve shall remain nameless, but damn, I love her to death ;)
Maybe I'm just an impatient person. . .LMAO

People who are late though I am myself often
<hr>

Hi Ho
08-26-2004, 08:47 PM
I have so many I would never be able to list them all. I'll start off with a couple.
People that drive without their headlights on when it's pooring rain. (almost got killed by someone doing that yesterday)
Rattling noises in my car.
When passengers roll down their windows in my car (I hate having the windows down)
When I'm trying to carry something like a power tool and the cord gets caught on everything imaginable even though there is a 1/100000 chance.
I will add more later. :)

Hmm... well I guess I will try and be short, since I guess a lot of things annoy me...
People who can't take the 2 seconds to turn on their blinker when turning
People who look over at me as they pass me or me pass them(I do it to... I never understand why though....)
People who lie
People who don't keep plans/arrive late a lot
People who expect that because I can build a computer I can build one for them for $300, with Windows and all.
People who say "whatever" as a way to change subjects or as a diversionary word... one person I know uses this one a LOT
People who go the speed limiton my road which has speed limit signs from when it was still unpaved, but they refuse to pull over. I am sorry, but I can go 45-55 on most of my road, signs posted are for like 35-45 and some people actually do that... Winter is one thing, a sunny summer day is another thing completely
People who call me spoiled for my parents willingness to pay for a car and insurance(well its really a 3rd car. 2 for them, 1 for one when brakes down. Luckly that doesnt happen much :p)
People who hav dogs in the back of their open beded trucks, leash or not.
People who say Macs suck("There's only one mouse button!! WTF!?!")
People who... dang it... I lost my... umm... grove? Oh well, guess thats some of it. Mostly things I hate, but all of them have a peevish quality :D

I wont bother boring you on why I am one step away from the edge.. but here's my latest one:
People who say "Really?!" after stuff I just told them - fine in a personal conversation, but in a meeting or sthing official?
Countermeasure: I've started saying "No I just made it up!" to their "really" or perhaps if I am in a better mood something more verbose. If I am going to get peeved about the Really? I might as well dish out something to irritate them.
Mutated strain of Really? (and much worse): "Is that right?"

With out a doubt, the thing that really drives me is people chewing food with their mouth open. That and making a "chomping" sound while eating. Add those two together and I can become a very unpleasent person.

Hey Kram, take a look at my header in my sig. YOU GOT IT!
• People stealing pens off my desk
• People who hit the snooze button on the alarm... just set it for the time you need to get up!
• Gibble, I'm with you on the chewing sounds too.
• Contrary to popular belief, the word LIKE does not belong several times in each sentence. It like, drives me crazy!
• People in the passing lane who aren't passing anyone... there are two other perfectly good lanes... MOVE! (and yes, we do have highways in Canada and no they do not have penguins on them and no I have never lived in an igloo and believe it or not, there was a day this summer that was 37 deg. Celsius... that's right CELCIUS).
OK... I think I'm done.

I'll agree with that one. I have at least 50 usernames and logins to manage and I can do it, and these people can't remember their BUSINESS login information?! Sheesh.
I agree with most of the aforementioned. I'll have to think of some of my own now.

I have to say I use "Really" a lot at work with customers who sometimes tell me the most random things. I just can't think of anything else to say a lot of the time.

I agree. Although I can get by with spanish speaking customers at work, we also get a lot of customers who only speak an asian language well, then we're screwed because we have only one cashier who speaks an asian lagnuage.
A major pet peeve of mine is people who aren't capable of, or simply choose not to, properly do their job. Especially when they are paid more than I am.
lil Jimmie's thread reminded me of another: people who buy big, gas guzzling, dangerous to everyone else, big SUVs and big pickups even though all they use them for is commuting, with no passengers. Some people use them for hauling stuff and so forth, but the others are needlessly endangering others and consuming limited natural resource.

My favorite response when subjected to someone's mindless banter is, "That's amazing." Works when you agree or disagree without extending the conversation. "Really" is more of a question and seems to require an additional response.
My Pet Peeve? People who join forums, neglect to read or disregard the posting rules. Same ones that neglect or refuse to list their location and date of birth. I love it when we recommend Newegg as a good source of products and then the poster tells you he's in the UK

Hmm, I remember an older thread that asked the same thing.
My two old ones:
The use of antibiotics as a cure all. Antibiotics cant help you with your viral infection.
People who let their dogs lick their face. They must like the taste of dog.
Other "peeves":
Hemorrhoids
Spanish irregular verbs

My pet peeve is sloppy writers. You know, people who post without using correct spelling, grammar, indentation, capitalization, and their content wanders everwhere BUT the subject. All this makes it much, much harder for me to read, and it can easily reach a point where I just quit and do not read it further. Did I say "read" ? "Decypher" more like. Don't get me wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. It just galls me when people obviously do not try even a little bit to make their posts more readable. It's the difference between accidental (the occasional spelling error) and negligence. Oh, and don't start me on people who use text messaging shortcuts or AOL "language".

Today he got told to shut the **** up OVER 300 TIMES!
