Not available to mainstream yet. PCI-E just made its debut...SLI has yet to shows itself on the mainstream market.

There isn't a chipset to date that supports more than 24 PCI-Express lanes (effectively creating 1x16 and 1x8 PCI-E). This includes Intel's 925XE chipset. You might have to wait a while.

Heres one: http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-SuperMicro_EATX_MBD_E7525_800MHZ_DP_SATA_2XGETH_PCIE_BULK_EATX_MBD_E7525_800MHZ_DP_SATA_2XGETH_PCIE_ BULK

fedz I believe that Alienwares will use pass through cables and stuff, at least the Alienware dual card system, and special drivers, without the need to use nVidia's SLi solution, although I don't know the exact details.

You are correct about the mother board. Also check out Nforce 4's they are capable too. Now all we need is a PCI express Ultra  nvidias SLI will be faster than Alienwares just because it's a custom interconnect
