My friend just got an iPod, and he's saying that it says that to transfer songs you must have USB2.0. Anyone know about this?

And with FireWire and USB 2.0 support, you can transfer the music from an entire CD to iPod in just 5 seconds or less.

Right, but I thought USB2.0 was always backwards compatible with USB1.1?

i don't know anything about that, i thought you were saying that mac dropped firewire support. i don't see any reason why you would not be able to do it, it would just be really slow

Yeah--my friend's saying that in the manual it says that it doesn't work without USB2.0, but that just seemed very strange, so I was checking with you guys to see if anyone else has encountered this.

well, according to the tech specs, it mentions nothing about usb1.1, but instead says usb2.0 is a requirement. whether or not this excludes 1.1 as an option, i don't know

Actually, I just tried a 4Gen iPod with an Ancient Win98 Toshiba laptop (presuming it's USB1.1, since USB 2.0 wasn't invented then...) and it worked. It was a little hickupy, but it worked fine. No need to worry there. It's best to have a Firewire or USB2.0 for optimal transfer speeds as USB 1.1 was excrutiatingly slow.

Well most PC's from the last few years have USB 2.0 so it really shouldn't be a problem.
