6 channel is just 5.1 5 speakers and a subwoofer. S/PDIF stands for Sony/Phillips Digital Interface. It is the standard digital connection found on many devices from mini-disc players to home theater recievers to computers. S/PDIF connects using either an optical connection (TosLink) or a coaxial connection.

only thing is this asus book says i only have three out puts for a 5.1 you know mike, line in and line out, how the heck ya sopposed to hook up a sub when it shares the same out put with your center speaker?and split the fronts and backs from one source each?

The three connections are as follows. Front (left and right), Rear (left and right), Center/Sub (Center and Sub). Each jack has two channels. Therefore the center and sub can be on the same jack. When you have it set to 5.1 sound and your speakers are connected you cannot use the line in or microphone. That is a limitation on many onboard sound systems. Some motherboards have more jacks but it doesn't seem that yours is one of them.
