Anybody got a recomendation for a firewire webcam for under a hundred bucks? Clarity and smooth motion are my priorities. I looked under reviews but didn't see anything. Cnet doesn't have a lot of reviews either. So I thought I'd check in with you guys. Running P 4 with 512 megs memory and broadband. Thanks for your attention.

Firewire webcams under any windows platform is a real crapshoot. There's a problem using any firewire camera as a webcam. Most if not all webcams use Video for Windows (VfW) technology to driver their displays. But firewire uses Windows Driver Model (WDM) drivers. The two are compatable - but only when converting WfV to WDM - not the other way around.
There is a company that has done quite a bit of work trying to bridge this gap - OrangeMicro (http://www.orangemicro.com/). Their firewire camera as well as their program WebCamDV allow WDM to transfer to VfW. Unfortunatly, the end result is a VfW picture quality. So that kills your desire for smooth motion and picture clarity.
Right now, the Mac platform is the only platform successfully using firewire webcams.
