Hello All,
Also have a 160 G external in an enclosue (usb) . . . bought ghost, going to ghost 20 g in laptop currently to 160 G external, then change out the 20g for the 80 g, use partion magic to partition new 80G, then return the 20G Ghost image on the 160g to the 80G on the laptop . .
Anybody see any problem with the above scenario . . before I start?
Thanks for your help .. .

Seems like their should be no problem, but I would prefer to do a clean install. I just upgraded my dell C400 from a 20GB 4200 rpm to a 30GB 5400 rpm drive. I used my recovery CD and did a fresh install. I had no problems and it runs significantly faster. HTH

most computers won't let you boot from usb or firewire that may be the only problem you run into, if you are gonna try and move the info to the new hdd you will need to install the os first
The laptop's bios may not support an 80gb drive.
I know you already bought Ghost and already own a USB external drive, but Apricorn has external USB housings and software specifically designed for doing exactly what you are trying to do - upgrade laptop drives and clone them through the USB port.

Why is Ghost preferred over GoBack?
Ghost and GoBack are 2 totally different programs. Ghost is a utility to clone hard drives and make hard drive images for a total system restore. Goback is used like ME/XP's System Restore to take "snapshots" and set the system state back to a previous date.
