Could this work? Im just curious cause im not sure if a new HDD will work with older IDE cables and older drive connectors and the like.

Hi,

if the hard drive is PATA, then it will work fine, but probably slower. The BX Chipset for example suppors only UDMA33 natively. If your board supports more, your hdd won't be held back. But in either case, it will work.

If the hard drive is SATA, then you'd need an adapter. And then the same as I already mentioned applies.

The only real problem might be bios support for the drive capacity. A lot of P2's do not support drives larger than 32gb. You can always use a PCI controller card such as the Promise Ultra 100 or Ultra 133 TX to overcome this, which will also support the Ultra ATA speeds.

alright, just wondering since I havent dealt with alot of old/new circumstances very much.
