I just got my first dvd burner and am trying to learn how to burn movies... Can anyone tell me how they do it and if there is any tricks to it? I have nero and roxio 6 software.

Hi,

update Nero Burning Rom 6 to the newest version.
Then, start Nero Burning Rom 6 and close the wizard. Choose DVD-Video.
Choose ISO Level 1, Mode 1, ISO9660, no Joliet, no relaxation of ISO restrictions.
Use the title you want.
Use 2.4x or 4x burning speed, and book type DVD-ROM (if you burn to DVD+R).

Then you just drag&drop the ifo,bup and vob files into the VIDEO_TS folder and burn.

I also use verify after burning to let Nero verify that the burn process was successful.

And if it is still possible, return that Sony drive and get a better DVD burner. . like the original LiteOn 832. The problem with Sony is that they don't support booktype change anymore, and they had LiteOn take out the option to change the booktype for the Sony drives. So Sony's LiteOn drive is limited. The original LiteOn isn't.

well im not 100% sure what you mean. do you mean illegal copys of movies? because in order to do that, you need to have special software which is illegal as well.

copying movies that you own *isn't* illegial. They're guaranteed under your Fair Use rights as stated under the DMCA.

I make backup copies of my movies using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, but I don't do it for my entire collection, rather I only make copies of movies that I watch over and over again to save wear and tear of the original.

Doing a google search should yield you where to find these great programs.
