so considering i can't just take my old harddrive out of the computer i figured i'll just transfer the files. basically i just want to transfer my multimedia files. so can i just hook it up to my new drive as a slave and then just do a cut and paste? is there any chance of corruption of any sort? they are vastly different drives (in terms of speed and size) and i am running windows 98 on the old one and windows xp on the new one. i just want to make sure that i don't mess things up with windows going crazy on me because i'm transferring files from an older version to a newer one.

It'll work fine. A file is a file, as long as it is Windows compatible. It doesn't matter what version it's run on.

I suggest you copy and paste, not cut and paste.
