Excessive hard drive activity

Just built a new system with WD 74 gig raptor on Asus K8N-E deluxe running XP SP2. Hard drive runs excessively, like it's being used without memory. Like every time I select something with the mouse, and also while idle. Have 1 gb memory and even disabled cache but to no avail. Am running anti-virus but did also on previous system and it didn't do this. Is SATA on SATA1 non raid. Am pleased with speed etc... but not constant HD activity from a not so silent drive. Thanks for any help.

Check for spyware with spybot dearch and destroy and adaware. Something is accessing the drive and the usual suspects are spyware and malware/trojans.

I ran adaware and found a couple items, deleted them, didn't seem to help any. Will try spybot also.
