Well looks like my tv's dead. Was a Sony Trinitron, now the picture is compressed into the top of the screen and there is a whole bunch of vertical lines, almost rolling vertical lines. This is with no input at all from any source. I'm going to assume it's dead, and not worth repairing.

So, now I'm looking for a ~32" conventional TV. What should I look for; what are the good/bad brand at this time? I know there are some A/V pros around here, looking for ward to a response. Also, don't be afraid to ask any clarifing questions, I'm kind of busy and wrote this in haste. But I'll do my best to answer.

Sony is always good, but I tend to move towards Toshiba. Toshiba is just as good as Sony with the same features and quality, and typically a bit cheaper. Make sure you get a flat screen, and plenty of inputs. Don't worry about getting an HDTV yet, it's still a while off. Other than that, nothing else to look for.

Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, and Sanyo are all good brands. Sanyo is a very good deal. You can find them at Wal-Mart and they have very good prices on nice sets. I have a 27in Sanyo TV that is 4 years old and works like new. The picture is great. I also have a 25 year old Sanyo TV that still works like new. I would stay away from RCA, Magnovox, and most of the cheap generic brands. Here is a nice set. If it's within your budget I recommend it.

Panasonic 32in Flat Screen (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=2601135&cat=136944&type=19&dept=3944&path=0%3A3944%3A172479%3A3996%3A136944)

If it's a bit expensive then I'd say you go look at the Sanyo TV's at Wal-Mart. They are a very good value.
