I was moving my cpu into my new asus mobo from my old dell case, and I noticed when i tried to put my old heatsink back on it was a bit to big. I guess i cant use it correct?

Without damaging the mobo I don't think you will get it on, but at least heatsinks are not too expensive. But are you sure it is the right way round? There should be a raised bit, that goes over the top of the socket.

What do you mean it's too big? What is it hitting? Something on the motherboard? The case side panel? What?

I would check again to make sure you put it on the correct way, but if it still dosn't fit, I would't try to use it. If it isnt a perfect fit, you might have heat problems or the CPU might not work at all... I would then buy a new heatsink. www.xoxide.com has a couple cool ones and some cheap ones... or newegg.com

No, THe Heatsink doesnt fit in the black casing for it. Like it goes over the edge to much.

If the heatsink doesn't fit in the retention cradle, it's too big and you'll need to get a new one.

Did that heatsink come with a 423 pin P4? The early Williamette P4s ran really hot and the heatsinks were really big.

I found out that Dell customizes alot of their stuff, like their cpu Pentium 4 is actually a little differnt I tHINK so i am going to get a new pentium 4 processor with a heatsink and fan. The thing I thought that was a heatsink wasnt even a heatsink!!!!
