I find it interesting that some folks think they're protected, even though they have no firewall and their AV is out of date. Do they think there's a PC fairy watching over them?
There's a link at the bottom of the article that gives more detail. Supposedly, 40% of people with home wireless networks do not use encryption, even though the majority have "sensitive information" on their PC's.

About wireless security, once when I set up one for a friend I put it in and got the computers connecting, then I disconnected and started setting up the security, but the XP machines still were connected, it turned out some neighbour had a very powerful router (none of the neighbours in a 100M radius had wireless) had not secured it, and so th machines were connecting to it.

People don't know squat about computers in general. Sad really. I mean you don't have to get a real in depth understanding, but the simple knowledge to keep an AV up and updated, update your OS and other software, remove spyware, and defrag just seems to be to much to handle for some reason.

I didn't know squat three years ago...that was before PC Mech. A good testimony for my statement was that I had McAfee on my HP desktop  . Time for NOD32 to crawl in :D

Isn't that the truth? I try telling people at work that AV software is useless without the latest definitions and they look at me like I'm crazy.
