DVD Writing Software locking up PC

Brand new Toshiba SD-R5272 8x DVD/CD writer, media I think is Memorex 4x DVD+RW and software used is the OEM version of NERO6 with the latest upgrades from the Nero's site.

Syptoms:
Any DVD like action locks up PC..
BackItUp - locks up PC
DiscSpeed Test - locks up PC
DVD data disc - locks up pc

Can Dos:
write a CDR disc with Nero
write a CDR disc with Roxio
read a CD-RW with DirectCD (Roxio)
Write a CD-rw with DirectCD (Roxio)

HAs anybody else seen symptoms of their PC locking up using a DVD in their DVD writer?

People at work are telling me that it is the media, and to try Verbatum Datalife DVD-RW instead of DVD+RW

No, but I've seen conflicts between Nero and Roxio if they are both installed.

Ok I found the latest Firmware update for the drive off of their european website (rather than their US website), 1031 rev.

Following the instructions with crossed fingers, that solve the issue of the NERO activities locking up the pc when doing something with a DVD.

My guess it had nothing to do with the software, but was more likely the drive and the media. But since I don't have another DD burning software I couldn't test that theory.

The media used was Memorex DVD+rw, which searching on the internet comes up alot as a problem media with this drive.
