What ever happened to the Foveon X3 chip?

There for a while, I couldn't pick up an magazine without hearing how great the Foveon X3 chip is. Now I haven't heard anything about it for about a year or so.

Is it vaporware? Are any cameras out there using the chip?

Anybody here have one?

Thanks for the link, Yuanji. Wow... they want almost $1400 for that unit, without a lense. (and I understand it's plastic, too.) I used that model number and read some reviews. Not very impressive at all.

I also got the impression that is the only maker out there using the X3 chip. What a shame. They sould be treating it like a vid card chip, and let others also build using it.

I wonder if they'll update the chip as from what I just read, almost all newer cameras kick it's behind, and it's still an 3MP unit...
