Hey all,

I own 1 copy of Half-Life 1 and have a Steam account that I play Counter-Strike 1.6 on. Now, I want to play Counter-Strike with my brother, but for some reason I cannot register my CD Key on another computer (I tried my current account and a new one). What gives here? Why cant I register my LEGAL PURCHASED COPY on a different computer on the same account? If I can't register more than once, what happens when I have to reformat my hard drive? Does that mean I have to buy a whole new copy of the game?

Please help,
/sd

When you signed up for steam, you signed that cd key to a email address and a password.. if you can, or your screwed. remember that email and pass and login with it on another computer, just click "log into existing accont" enter email and pass and you should be signed in..

Purchasing a game (Half Life) means that you purchased the right to play/own it by a single purchase at any single given time. Given that you have logged off on the first computer when you installed/inserted the CD key on the second one, you should be able to legally access the steam server and play the game. That being said, I believe you should reinstall STEAM on the second computer and try again.

Well, when I go to "register a game I own" and enter the key on the second computer it says that I already have associations with this key on my account. When I try on my brothers account, it says the cd key is already in use.

hope that helps a bit.

As long as the other computer has Steam, and the Games downloaded, all you need to do is log on using your account. That is one of the feautres of steam, you can go to another house or palce, and log on using your steam key. You can download any game you own through Steam, and play it by logging on through your e-mail address.

Yes, but it is the downloading of the games that is the problem. In order to download them i need the cd key which i have, but cant use twice on the same account of different computers.

Edit:
I want to play on a lan against eachother at the same time

Get some version of Steam that includes the CS Precache or something...Mine was about 700MB and I just logged into my account and selected to load CS, took one minute to download patches and start playing. You can't use the same CD-Key for 2 Accounts, you can only register it to one.
