new dvd rec

just purchased a new rebel digital camera, need to add storage and a damd good dvd recorder, for the storage iam going with a maxtor 250 gig extrenal but stone out of the dvd , last build was a cdrw and a dvd player, what do i look for?
when you set up a ext do you format and all like you do when you set up a build i am on ntsf now on a maxtor 120 gig

NEC, LiteOn, Plextor, LG make good DVD burners. If you go with one of them, you'd be fine.
Like the NEC 3500, for example. It's the best bang for the buck right now.
