I flashed my lite-on DVDRW SOHW-832S VSOB to VSOE & it can't read most of my old CD's. It does a great job burning but can't read good.
I have a dell 2100 (one 5.25' bay)
So I'm considering getting an external CD or DVD ROM drive
How do these drives get their power? (I have a 145W PSU DELL)
Are their transfer rates good?
Tell me about them if U own one or know some who owns one. I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!!!

Most external drives get their power from an outlet.

I would go with a Sony drive as they are very reliable.

What about transfer rates???
I think a DVD ROM will not rip audio CD's as fast as a CD ROM, but I can use the DVD to copy DVD's

Are you asking if you can copy the DVDs from the external drive to the burner?

You should be able to if you just make a copy of the disk.
