Slave a SATA off an IDE drive?

I have a crashed SATA drive that I need to slave off my working IDE drive, so I can retrieve the data. I have the SATA contoller in my computer and the drive is recognized but it doesnt show up in My Computer with a letter. Any thoughts?

Not sure what you're meaning by 'slave off my IDE drive.' Was this SATA drive and controller in another computer previously?

The controller is newly installed so that I can run the SATA driive in order to get the data off it. The SATA drive was in my other computer If there is another way you can think of getting the data other than installing it in my working computer let me know.

Is the SATA drive formatted?

Yes, it is. Maybe I said it all wrong. Basically I want to be able to see the SATA drive so that I can grab its data. It is connected to a controller pci card. The computer boots to an ATA card that connects via IDE. The SATA drive is recognized bit will not show up in My Computer.

Does it show up in Disk Management? If so, what does it say about the partition? If the drive is crashed, you may need data recovery software.

What operating systems were you using with these drives? if the SATA drive is XP (NTFS format) and the IDE 9X/ME (FAT32 format) then the windows on the IDE drive is not going to see the NTFS format on the SATA drive. If it is the other way around XP will recognise FAT32

Have u installed the drivers for the SATA drive in windows?

GLC was correct. All I needed was some file recovery software. I used Ontrack 7 and I was able to recover most of my data.
