View Full Version : Transfering Files/programs From Internal Hard Drive To External Drive

TRANSFERED FILES/PROGRAMS FROM INTERNAL TO EXTERNAL DRIVE TO FREE UP SPACE ON INTERNAL. EXTERNAL REFLECTS MOVE BUT INTERNAL DOES NOT REFLECT FREE SPACE. DID I MISS A STEP AFTER MOVING FILES OR WHAT?

Are the files in the recycle bin? Have you tried restarting? BTW please can you keep caps lock off, sentences in all capitals can be hard to read.

Files are not in recyle bin and computer has been restarted, Sorry about caps

You didn't tell us what version of Windows you are using, but I'll assume XP.

Open a command prompt (start - run - cmd) and type CHKDSK /F - it will probably say the drive is locked and do you want to do it on reboot - answer Y, close the window, and reboot.

Did You COPY & Paste

or

CUT & Paste.......?

COPY & Paste leaves a copy of the original files in the Original location.............

Just a Thought....
