Hey, is anyone else out there in the PCMech World taking APCS right now in high school? My teacher's a crazy man and we get something like 5 hours of coding to do per night sometimes. He seems to have no concern for our other classes and/or daily lives. I was just wondering if everyone taking APCS gets crazy amounts of homework per night or if my teacher is just 'unique'. I haven't had the opportunity to talk to people from other schools about this, so I figured what better place than this? Right??? Thanks.

Are you talking about the AP Computer Science course? My cousin took that four years ago before it turned Java - but I don't think he had nearly as much homework. What I would recommend is to go to the store and purchase a Cliff Notes AP book which reviews the AP in a clear English Language...that's what my cousin did. I personally never took it.

I'm currently taking a Computer Science major in university, I just finished my first semester and all it was, was Java. Crazy amount of coding, but I guess it is university. I start my second semester after christmas, we get to make an online game in Java, can't say I'm not excited.

Wow, sounds really cool. Nice to know I'm not alone. The best game (most advanced) we've done is a GUI of that game Othello, with player vs. AI. The AI had two levels, get most pieces back and a weighting system in the 2d array. Thing is, we had to do it in 3 days. IT WAS CRAZY HOURS OF CODING EACH NIGhT! But worth it in the end.....I guess... :D

Sadly the hardest thing that we had to code this semester was a calculator, a little harder than I had anticipated but it wasn't too frustrating, I'll have to post the source code. It ended up being three different classes. it was pretty fun.

I took APCS last year. I took it as an independent study course as it couldn't fit in my schedule, and I did pretty close to no work the entire year. Even those who took it normally didn't do much more work than I did. I passed the AB test with a 3.

Well, that confirms it...my teachers a crazy man. Complaining to him will probably just lower my grade as he grades based on whatever he feels like. I better get a five on the AP! And about the calculator thing, don't feel bad, it's better than anything anyone in my class can do and we've been taking the class for at least ten weeks now. Seeing the code would be cool though. I actually should/may be able to do a four function 15 key calculator actually. I'll try over Christmas break.
