hard drive removal and reinstall

hello to everyone this is my first time on so please excuse me if my question seems silly..

my pc has died, system board im afraid, can i just take out the hard drive and put it in another pc to view everything i have on it or do i need to take it to a data recovery specialist to retrieve my pics, music etc. any help would be much appreciated.

should be easy enough to install it another computer, however if you have your operating system on, your dos may get a little confused as to which system to run.

Most pcs will recognise it as another hard drive, D:, and all pictures on file and programs, should be there...
