can it be true.... virus scan

Hi to every one,

As a new commer to computers it seem's at every time I turn on my machine, it throws yet another spanner in the works , this time it goes like this.....

I took advantage of a free on line virus scan , and the results showed this...

PROBLEM FOUND

a virus found at ... HKEY_USERS\.default\software\microsoft\

after seeing this report I ran the following programs to scan for this virus problem

( a) Norton

(b) Ad-Aware SE

(d) Spy Bot search

(e) Zone alarm

and would you belive it ..!!!, "ALL" came up showing .. NO. viruses detected !!

So now I am wondering just what to do....?

Can any forum members help / advise me

try trendmicro.com they have a free on line scan that should help.
not all scanners are going to catch every one,
I use avg and so far it has not failed me
but still go to trendmicro once in a while to double check.

Star.. The general consensus of opinion is that none of the antivirus or malware scanners are infallible, they all miss something that the others catch or catch something that the others miss. If you have a read around the security forum you will see that the majority of people use a full time antivirus scanner but also double check occasionally with the online scanners, also the same applies with malware scanners most people tend to scan with two, have a read of this thread concerning peoples opinions of what they think is the best.

Exactly what free online scan did you use? Some of these give you false alarms in order to entice you to buy their product in order to remove it.

Zone Alarm is primarily a firewall (one of the better ones), not an antivirus or antispyware app. They have a working agreement with Computer Associates (E-Trust) which is one of the less regarded antivirus vendors - and they ARE trying to sell you their premium package. Stick with Trend Micro Housecall and Panda Active Scan.

Interesting - it's hitting on something in a registry key, not an actual file. I wouldn't worry about it.
