Machine won't post. Really bummed

OK,
Here's the latest:
I tried to get the computer to post with only cpu, vid card, and ram. Nothing. No go. No beeps, nothing on the screen. I tried another stick of ram, same result. Fans spin up fine. Both sticks of ram I tried are working on the computer I'm typing this on. Here's the specs again:
Cely 500 ppga
MSI 6905 Slocket (Supports Dual CPU and Voltage adjust)
Soyo 6BA
Matrox G200
64 meg Kingston PC100 SDRAM

Maybe I have a jumper on the slocket wrong.
Here's what I've set them at:
Voltage: JV0, JV1, JV2, JV3, JV4 all set to AUTO, meaning I jumped pin 1-2 on each.

Single/Dual CPU jumper (J3)left "Open" for single cpu.

Overclocking Jumpers J1/J2:
J1=Short, J2= Short 2-3
This setting is for "cpu define".
(Other choices are 100mhz, 133mhz, & Reserved.

It's like I'm not getting anything from the cpu.

I can't figure this out.

Hey there Ron,
Take that puppy apart, recheck and rejumper the system board/slocket and assemble it on a table top with *only* a vid-card, memory and CPU. Keep trying until she posts then assemble the goodies into your case.
Set your system board and slocket for 66mhz FSB and the correct multiplier.

Hey Toaster, I even tried to get it to post with the board outside of the case and no go.
My Soyo is a jumperless board. The only jumper is for clearing the cmos. Multiplier settings are in the bios. The slocket does not have a 66mhz setting. Is it possible this slocket will not work with my Cely 500 (66mhz)?

Ron,
I have an idea that either your CPU (slocket) or video card is not seated properly. At times it has taken me several tries to get the CPU to seat good and work. Do what Toaster said and take it apart and reassemble it an try it before mounting the board in the case. I would think your slocket should be fine on auto detect.

I've had the slocket/cpu in and out a dozen times. Same with the vid. card. I'll keep trying though.

I have another question:
The Slocket has a setting for 100mhz fsb. I know the Cely's a 66. But the BX board has a 100mhz bus. Should the Slocket therefore be set at 100mhz? And then do I set the fsb for the Cely in the bios? Is this right or do I leave the Slocket set to "cpu define"?

You mention that the motherboard supports dual-CPU. Is the second CPU slot terminated? There's a card that fits into that slot that you need to have in there so that the CPU will work properly.

If you need one, I have a few. Just say the word!

I think its the slocket that supports dual cpu. Have you flashed the bios? will this board support that high of a multipliyer (7.5)?

I'm kinda betting that the BIOS needs to be upgraded first. I keep a cacheless celery 266 around just for that reason. It seems to work on damn near everything. What you need is a processor that you know will work on the board such as a cacheless celery or older PII.

Hey Peter,
I'm not blaming the slocket. I was just wondering if I have it jumpered incorrectly.
Reboot, and Soyo Tech support said this Cely 500 would work so I could flash the bios.

Just from personal experience from the motherboards that I work with, what they say, and what is, are quite often two totally different things.

If that's what it takes Ron, and if you don't have one... buy, borrow, or steal a smaller socket 7 processor to get that puppy poopin'. It's hard for me to believe that it won't post however. (because of the C500 anyway)

Not having seen it, I'd still be concerned about your cpu to converter card attachment..... Zif lock, etc.

I need to get into the bios first to flash the bios. I will have to borrow a cpu (from somewhere)to do that. This Cely 500 won't post with the lower multipliers that I have available at present. The bios flash is supposed to give me the higer multipliers I need.

Peter, the board supports only single cpu, it's the slocket that supports dual.

Actually Ron, what DO you have in other computers. A slot1 cpu would work also. See if it starts and you can upgrade the bios with that.

The problem is the BUS set to 100mhz will not let the Celery post.
You MUST set it to 66mhz first, at least for the setup portion, overclock it later.

Are you referring to the bus settings on the Slocket? There are only 3: 100mhz, 133mhz, and "CPU Define". I have it set to "CPU Define". The bios has settings of 66, 75, 83, 100, etc. and so on, but I can't get into the bios.

That's the spot, it will read under "CPU define", but it can't do it because the slowest it can get to is 100mhz. You need a different slotket to get it to 66mhz, then it should post no troubles. "User define" means that it will automatically select 100 to begin with (it's lowest setting) and allow you to increase it via BIOS after with no errors. You STILL have to get it running at 66mhz first, thus the slotket you have is no good for that CPU.

I didn't know there was a difference in slockets, other than the ones with jumpers for volt adjust and the ones without. I think I'll pick up a new slocket to get this machine going. I'll keep this MSI slocket for another project. I really like it as it has adjustments for voltage and fsb.

The slotket is a MSI rev 1.1 so it should be good. Ron, try flashing the BIOS with the 366 I sent you first.
