CC inverter melted

My daughter wanted a light in her computer, so I installed a cold cathode and mounted a switch in the front. I told her to be sure to shut it off when she wasn't using it. Went in tonight to check on the system, the light wasn't working and the inverter was melted. I'm glad it didn't burn my house down.

Nice catch....you might want to look at those fans that have the lights built into them - they look pretty nice and are pretty inexpensive. One came with my 80mm fan.

Wow...what brand was that cold cathode? And I'm real glad it didn't burn your house down.

I don't use those kinds of things in my own computers, but I did try to install a cold cathode into one computer a few years ago...bright blue one from PC Toys...when the light was turned on the computer would lock up. Turn off the light and reboot the computer and it would work fine until you turned the light on again. Took out the cold cathode and installed some blue LED fans instead. The guy really, really wanted blue lights in his computer.

I had several kits laying around, some from the Egg, some from FrozenCPU. All use the same cheapo iffy inverter. Goin' with LED now. I will go with lit fans if I can find some that are quiet. Running PC P&C fans now.

the fans with the leds are the way to go. They give out a fair amount of light and help with the cooling at the same time. Not sure where I got my fans but I love the blue look.
