no detection

I have two hard drives on my computer
Whenever I start up, either one or the other will detect but not both

the screen will look like this:

Pri. master - (Hard drive name)
pri. slave - None
Sec. master - CD drvie
Sec. slave - CD drive

or this:

Pri. master - None
pri. slave - (Hard drive name)
Sec. master - CD drvie
Sec. slave - CD drive

This is a new problem, both drives used to work
Is there any way to get both drives detected again?

Reseat the cables and verify correct jumpering. Try a new ribbon cable.
