I am thinking about buying either the Intel D925XCV or D915PBL mobo and putting in 4 hard drives- 2 as RAID 0 and 2 as RAID 1.

Should I set up the RAID 0 first and get everything working and then add the RAID 1 drives? Will WinXP give me a hard time if I added 2 RAID 1 drives later?

While reading about setting up RAID with WinXP, the instructions listed the use of a floppy to install the RAID drivers when prompted with the F6 request. Is it possible to install the driver using a single DVD/CD drive, while installing WinXP using the same DVD/CD? Another words, do I have to have a floppy in my system?

Thanks.

Too bad it doesn't support RAID 0+1, that would be an ideal situation with 4 drives.

Yes, you MUST have a floppy drive to use the F6 routine.

Thanks glc for the info. I guess I will just have to get a new floppy drive. It is only $7, but adds to the clutter.

What is RAID 0+1? Intel do have their Matrix RAID- I think I can use two HD and allocate part of the drives as RAID 0 and part of the drives as RAID 1.

I am thinking about using WD Raptor drives for the RAID 0 and 80gig WD for RAID 1. Any recommendation would be appreciated.

Raid 0+1 is for 4 identical drives - it puts 2 RAID 0 pairs into a RAID 1. Otherwise known as a mirrored stripe set.
