I built a computer for a friend and connected the front usb case wires (correctly, I believe) to the mobo. It worked fine with a mouse. When he connected his camera to it all the USB's quit working, front and rear. He brought it over, we sent in the mobo, got a new one and I reinstalled it and checked it with a mouse again and it worked fine. He gets home and connects the camera (he says he got static electricity shock when he touched his finger to the front of the usb connection and then smelled elect or plastic burning smell) the computer was froze when he looked up (not sure if it was froze before he plugged in), he rebooted and then no video action on the monitor. I have him pulling out the cmos battery now and reseating the video card, he just has a green flashing light on the monitor but says it sounds normal at boot up. He is using WinXP and has kept it up to date, he had SP2 installed. The camera works fine with his dell laptop running xp sp1. He has a MSI 865pe Neo2-P Mobo in the problem computer. He bought an elcheapo case but I insisted on a quality Antec power supply. Could it be that the front usb case wires supplied with the case may be the culprit since thats the only thing that has remained the same? The camera has worked fine in the past when it was connected to the rear USB's. I know, I may not have had the wires connected properly but I followed and checked wire colors and dbl checked mobo settings etc, I put alot of time into being sure it was connected properly but know it still could be builder error.
