CD ROM drive is now G drive, Why?

I checked out a friends computer yesterday (printer wasn't working) and while checking out "My computer" noticed that her CD ROM drive is reckognised on the comp as "G" drive.
She has no other drives on the computer other thatn the hard drive and of course a floppy disk drive. When I pointed this out to her she told me that it use to be "D" drive and she hadnt noticed that it was now "G" She has recently had some problem with her modem and had somone look at it for her but doesn't know if the problem existed before that or not cos she hadn't noticed it. Anyway what I want to know is how do I change the drive back to her "D" drive or should she just leave it as is. (its working fine as "G") but would prefer it to be "D"
How do I go about it to change it.

Thanks rightcoast. The articles refer to XP and I found them very interesting but I should have stated in my origingal post that she is using Windows 98. I dont know if the procedure would be the same in 98.
Will check it out when I go over to her house. If its a different procedure maybe you can let me know. or someone else may know.

To change drive letters in 98, you do that in the properties of the drive itself in device manager. You cannot change fixed disk letters, only removable and optical drive letters.
