Problem with NVidia Graphics Card

I recently purchased an NVidia Graphics card and installed it into my computer. When I just started using it to play some of my power demanding 3D games, my system would just freeze and I would hear a high-pitched sqeaking sound from my speakers right afterward. I don't know what could have happened. I followed the instructions about how to install it and everything. The only things that I think could be the problem are that I have the power supply cable for the card connecting to a power cable branching off the one connected to my hard drive. I also think that I might need to upgrade my power supply. I need some help about what I should do.

The power connector for the video card should be one direct from the PSU. How big and what brand is your PSU?

have you cleaned out your old drivers entirely with a program like driver cleaner? it may be driver conflicts

My PSU brand is NMB. The power input is 100V-240V. The DC output is 295.4 watts max.
Oh, and I have not cleaned out my old drivers with "driver cleaner."

Your probably a little low in power from the PSU, especially if your new card is of the 6800 series of cards. Not sure of the NMB brand of PSU.

Yeah, well, my computer is a Sony VAIO PCV-RZ24G. So it's not really a cutting edge computer anymore.

So do you recommend upgrading the power supply unit?

As Juanji said, you may have driver conflicts.
First thing to do is remove the old video card drivers(you may need to uninstall and then reinstall your new card after clearing out the old drivers). If you still have the problem, then look at a new PSU. (Not sure if Sony uses proprietory connections like Dell)

You might want to e-mail Sony. Like flanzig pointed out, they probably use proprietary PSUs, in which case a standard ATX unit will not work.
