Hey guys Happy New Year.

Im having this problem for a year now. Here's my problem. I am using a Compaq Presario 1503AP notebook with a 24x CD Drive for 2 years now. The CD-ROM does not recognize any CD(audio/data). I don't believe the problem is with the CDs because this CDs work fine on my external CD-RW Drive. The PC will recognize it after several "ejects and tries". But in few cases it will not work at all. Sometimes it can be read and then not anymore. Checked Event Viewer. and has this error message under System Pane- "The device, \Device\CdRom1, has a bad block".

The rubber standoff exactly under the CD Drive Bay for my notebook has melted. That means my laptop has been overheating. Right?. My system temp goes as high as Motherboard-60C and CPU-57C(not on standby/fresh start) on normal use. Its a notebook. I don't think its normal. Right?

I have also another question can I boot using my external CD-RW Drive. Does USB Legacy only work for Mice/Keyboards using the USB port interface. USB Legacy is a feature in BIOS nowadays that allows mice/keyboards(USB) to be used even under DOS\(This type of devices require drivers for its USB drivers to work, Right?) If I can't boot using it I will be having a hard time when I will be reinstalling my OS in the future.

It does sound like time to replace that internal cdrom drive..

I doubt you will be able to boot with any external USB CD drive. I know that with the original Acer tablet PC, it shipped with a bootable USB CD drive - but it will not boot with a 3rd party USB CD drive, I've tried it.
