google desktop search questions

first, just google desktop search multiple hard drives, or just your c: drive?

also, the first time i installed it, i let it index overnite, and it had not gone anywhere, so i reinstalled it, and same thing, it stopped at 55 files. any idea why this would happen. i have installed it on other computers, and it has worked fine.

I tried it, and i didn't like it. Mine stopped at like 1,000 files or so. I uninstalled it.

Search google for "indexing network drives" or "indexing mapped drives". There's a registry entry that allows you to enter which drive letters to "crawl" through. There is also another entry that tells GDS whether its done or not. You should clear its value from "DONE" to blank to reindex the mapped / extra drives.

***BTW I looked it up for you, the registry values are located at

CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Desktop\Historical\Capture\Crawler

Type the drives in notepad like this:
!G:*tab*!T:*tab* etc...
you *tab* means hit tab not actually type that. They C&P into the CRAWL_DIRS value.

Then clear the CRAWL_FILE entry. (it should say "DONE" if not its okay too)
