I have an Artech WRA-WA48 CD-RW drive already installed in my computer (Windows 98 SE). The computer reads the drive fine - currently assigned to "E:" - it detects and properly runs CD's inserted into the E drive. The computer even allows me to view all contents in My Computer.

The problem is that my computer wont sense the WA48's Read/Write capability. When I try to drag files onto a blank disk, the error message is "Access is Denied: Make sure that the disk is not full or write-protected..."

When I attempt to use/re-install Cd-Rom burning software, it wont detect the drive. Ex: "Creator API returns failure - copier could not detect any supported CD-Recorders. It is either marked as read-only or your system administrator..."
With another burning software: "No Compatible CD Recordable or CD Re-Writable devices could be found on your system."

The device seems to work properly but somehow any read/write capablities have been denied, protected, etc. Any ideas how to fix this???

Note: I downloaded the newest Firmware upgrade from the Artech website and also tried to confirm that settings were correct. I also used Control Panel to search for new hardware/plug-n-play devices. None were found.
It also tells me that "a driver is already installed or no driver is required..."

Thanks,
John

Are you using the burning software that came with the drive? If not, what are you using? If it's software that came with a *different* drive, I guarantee you it won't work, OEM software is keyed to only work with the drive it shipped with. If it's a retail software, it may need an update to recognize that drive.

You cannot drag files onto a blank disk unless the disk has been formatted with DirectCD or some other packet writing software.

The original drive came with Nero Burning Rom software. Of course I don't have the original disk for this software. I did install retail burning software, however - Roxio Platinum. Will the Cd-RW only work with the original Nero software?

If you installed Roxio Platinum, go to the Roxio site and look for updates for it. It may need one to recognize that particular recorder.
