Hey all.

My nieghbor's printer suddenly started printing blue what should be printing black. Even after I slected the text to be black instead of 'auto', it still prints blue (many documents have been tried). It uses a seperate color cartridge, and a black cartridege. The black cartridge is defintly black, (check with a q tip), so it's got to be the printer somehow? Anybody have suggestions?

did you try a test page on the printer by its self ?

I doubt some printers will run with one unoccupied cartridge holder. Try the config utility that came with the printer as aforementioned - that is the best diagnosis for what problem you have here.

I don't think that printer will even print unless both cartridges are installed.

My suggestion is replace the printer - a 722 is getting pretty old and they cost more to fix than to replace.

My 722C did that a few years ago. IIRC, it was either an uninstall and reinstall or a new black cartridge that fixed the problem (may want to try reseating the existing black cartridge first). Has it been idle for a period of time? That is one champion of a printer. I'd hate to see it put out to pasture. Mine is still in the closet because I refuse to let go of it.

Hey, Its not a problem really. I have an HP Deskjet Printer before. Everytime my black ink cartridge will be empty already it will use the blue ink of the color cartridge to print.

I second the notion to NOT give up on it too quickly. I have a 720C and my son a 722C that, although not as fast as newer model print speeds, by golly they have steadfastly refused to die! HP makes good printers, in my view.

Hey guys, I really appreciate the responses here. Great ideas, all of them. I too believe this printer has many more years ahead of it, and I am heading over there (after my shower) to do a delete/reinstall of the print driver. If this doesn't take care of the probelm, then I will bring it over to my lab computer and install it...see if that works. If that STILL doesn't do the job, then I will recommend another HP printer for them to replace it with. HP, is simply, the best consumer level printer money can buy IMHO. My 950c has seen over 20,000 documents printed, it squeeks like hell, but has never missed a printing beat!
