Hello again,

I worked on a Dell Dimension L___c computer two months ago and here are the specks. It is a PII, 40g hdd with 256mb of RAM and now is running Windows XP. The computer was working fine after the HDD upgrade and the RAM upgrade. A few days ago, we had a power outage that lasted for about 30 seconds and now when you turn on the computer it beeps once, the windows XP screen comes on and then a prompt tells you that the password has expired and wants you to put a new one in. If you click cancel or type anything, it takes you to the blue welcome screen of XP and freezes. During the outage the computer was plugged into a surge protector, but the phone line was plugged into the modem.
I checked the BIOS and there are no stored passwords and I took the jumper on the mobo and put it in maintanence mode so that I can double check that there are no stored passwords. The owner of the computer has not put any passwords on the computer. Does anyone have any ideas?

Safe Mode as administrator, there should be no password needed..

I had this on a Micron PC a while back. Try resetting the CMOS either with the appropriate jumper or remove the mobo battery (with the power supply unplugged) and leave the battery out for about 15 minutes. This will return the CMOS to default settings and remove the password requirment. You'll want to recheck the bios after to make sure everything else is ok.
