Man peed way out of avalanche (http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_1261997.html?menu)

Story:
A Slovak man trapped in his car under an avalanche freed himself by drinking 60 bottles of beer and urinating on the snow to melt it.

Rescue teams found Richard Kral drunk and staggering along a mountain path four days after his Audi car was buried in the Slovak Tatra mountains.

He told them that after the avalanche, he had opened his car window and tried to dig his way out.

But as he dug with his hands, he realised the snow would fill his car before he managed to break through.

He had 60 half-litre bottles of beer in his car as he was going on holiday, and after cracking one open to think about the problem he realised he could urinate on the snow to melt it, local media reported.

He said: "I was scooping the snow from above me and packing it down below the window, and then I peed on it to melt it. It was hard and now my kidneys and liver hurt. But I'm glad the beer I took on holiday turned out to be useful and I managed to get out of there."

Parts of Europe have this week been hit by the heaviest snowfalls since 1941, with some places registering more than ten feet of snow in 24 hours.

Drunk and staggering? That must have been good. I am surprised that he could even walk and remember what happened. Good thing he had ALL that beer, huh?

Wow, 60 beers. I would have been comatose with half that. I don't even think I've ever drunk 30 beers in one run. Certainly a creative way to go about it.

why didnt he just dump the beer on the snow to melt it? or why didnt he just put the beer in his mouth to warm it up... and then spit in the snow? or why didnt he eat the snow and pee it out haha?

60 beer, by 4 days,
15 beer a day, plus He got what calories are in the beer to keep his body running. Calories = Heat.

Also, had he just poured it out on the snow, it would not have been as warm as after it was processed in his body.

Eatting the snow, and doing the same, would have lowered his internal temp, and would have lead to hyperthermia. Probably would not have made it.

He is proof, Beer can save your life.

I would not be surprised if he lands some good money, advertising the Brand of Beer.

1.) Dump good beer? That's a waste!
2.) Spit out good beer? Another waste!
3.) Eat snow? Why eat snow when you have good beer!
4.) Probably figured he was gonna die anyway so why not enjoy some brewski's on the way out! :D

please note that this wasnt Canadian beer . 60 foreign beers is probly like 60 American beers with 80% water content. :p

actually euro beers are on par with canadian beers when it comes to alcohol content (especially Belgian and some German beers).

That may change tho as the French gov't wants to slap a higher tax on higher alcohol content beers

I just don't like beer that you can see through. Most American beers are to similar to water for my taste.

It's truly incredible that this was the best way for him to get out. And with his body needing calories, the beer probably just ran straight through him. I wonder if he knew that it was a good idea when he was doing it!
