I was considering getting one of those one touch external backup hard drives and have a few questions. Can they be use with raid 0 arrays and do they make differential backups?

I was looking at this drive in particular. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=22-144-225&depa=0

Do any of you guys have any experience with these and if so how do you like them?

Interface: USB 2.0 / Firewire

No can use in a Raid 0 setup. Need to be able to plug into the raid controller.

I have a two year old Maxtor external that still works like a charm. I don't use the one touch backup though.

The One Touch have received good reviews. And Maxtor is a quality unit, too.

As far as RAID goes, do you mean using the OneTouch with a system with a RAID setup? if so, then yes you can use it. If you mean using the OneTouch as part of the RAID, then no, you can't.

I have to 80 gig SATA's in a RAID 0 (160 gig total). I want 1 160 gig that can back these 2 drives up. Is this possible with this drive. I only see this as a problem if comp boots up in dos to restore files off of backup.

Good question. I believe it uses Windows software and not DOS, so you should be OK. I went to Maxtor's site and poked around, there was no mention of RAID. I also checked out Dantz's site (maker of the software for the OneTouch) and they don't exclude, or included RAID either...

Doesn't RAID O see two 80gb hard drives as 1 drive meaning you only have 80gb total?

Doesn't RAID O see two 80gb hard drives as 1 drive meaning you only have 80gb total? That is raid 1, raid 0 sees two 80gb drives as a single 160gb drive.

I cannot remember the exact server I tested the Maxtor One Touch on, but it easily backed up a server, which may or may not have a RAID array. Not much help, but it could have had a raid array in it.
