i am considering about buying this camera. my question is how long do digital camera batteries usually last (it uses a battery pack) is there a place where i can buy the battery for cheaper. because it is like $60 at canon. the battery model # is NB-4L in case you need to know

you can buy generic batteries for the canon range at best buy and circuit city, mine doesn't say who it was made by, but I got it at BB and it even lasts longer than the Canon battery. Mine is the SD-100 and uses the NB-3L.

I belive they are all useing Nimh type of battery, and if you have two of them and a charger, you can have a spare all the time, and with that type of battery, it don't have to be run down to recharge it, it is not affected by recharging when not useing it .
I keep two batteries for both my digi camcorder and my digital camera.
also the time of useableility will depend on how high of resulation and how often the flash is used, and the lcd display. you should get a couple hundred pictures on one charge.

Not that I have seen, the generic battery actually lasts longer than the Canon supplied one. The are both Li-ion and both work very well.

by-golly your right:
I just looked at mine and they are li-ion sorry for the error, my mistake,
guess I had Nimh on my mind as I am in the process of building a charger for them. I am getting rid of all my nicad batteries and switching over to the Nimh type. and they take a differnt type of charger.
