View Full Version : Monitor Calibration

I used the monitor calibration tool that comes with PhotoShop CS. That is, I tried. I could not complete the first step with this monitor. It said to put the contrast all the way up and adjust the brightness until the black box is as dark as possible without being black. The problem is that the brightness is all the way up and the box is completely black. Is it just my inexpensive CTL monitor? Is there another adjustment somewhere so I can properly calibrate it? The monitor on my other PC has noticably richer and brighter colors but it doesn't fit on this desk. That Arcus monitor is at 20% brightness and it's brighter than this one at 100% brightness.

not all monitors will be compatiable with that program as far as the settings go, some work better than others.
I know of no work arounds for that problem, except to change to a better monitor

Well I've been thinking about a new one sinc the intermintent fuzziness started. I may go LCD which means more money and a longer wait. Thanks for the reply. Does the fact that the brightness/contrast have to be all the way up to look adequate mean that the tube is just low quality or is it going out?

the software program I had with one of my older monitors had a simular setting, it is controled by the software in the program,
that is why it wants the monitor controls turned up, this gives the software the full range of the monitor brightnes/contrast,
at least thats the way I understand it.

The monitor settings were up before I used the program. If I turn the brightness below 100% it is way too dim. At 100% it's still quite a bit dimmer than my other monitor which is at 20%.
