I previously posted on this problem but could't find it on "search" to go back to the original thread. In anycase I have tried more things without sucess.

The problem: Can't load drivers for the HP 7130 All in one printer.

When I try, I just get the scanner utility in the programs menu. In the add/remove programs screen it lists HP 7100 series driver and I am able to remove it.

Things I've done:

Tied to download drivers from HP using active x install and the usual save program and install. Went through many (25 hours) with HP live chat. Downloaed Java VM. Nothing worked. Finally, HP sent me the drivers on a disc - tried to install -same problem.

I reinstalled windows and tried loading the printer drivers on a stripped down machine before anything else was installed. Same problem. Installed SP2 and all the other updates I could find and the problem persists.

The only thing reistalling Windows XP did for me was that previously I was unable to remove the drivers after install (I got a 1324 error). Now I can delete the program but it still won't install fully.

Next step? Buy another printer?

I don't know if this will help, but I had a very similar problem installing an HP photo printer. This printer has a huge, and I mean huge software/driver install. It was further complicated as this printer could be configured to be 100% wirelessly installed. Just a network cable connected to an open port on my WAP/router. I had many attempts to get everything installed right on this one box on the network running Win XP home w/SP2. I finally was able to get it installed and configured by shutting down every unneeded tsr proggie in my system tray and shutting down a few unneeded services that were running in task manager. Like I said, this may not be true for your problem, but this is what worked for me. Good luck and be sure to let us know what pans out.

Thanks AlwaysUp,

What are tsr proggie 's and how would I determine which are uneeded and could be shutdown? Then how do I shut them down?

Rightclick any unneeded icon in the bottom righthand near the system clock and either exit or close. These are terminate and stay resident proggies.

Thanks. Didn't know they were called proggies. But I did exit them all when I didi the install.

That's slang, giuseppe, for programs. BTW, where are you from? Cause if you not accustomed to Tex-speak you may wanna toss any unfamilar words :D
