View Full Version : can’t seem to be able to burn more then at 4x (DVD)

Hardware : LG GSA-4120B

I can’t seem to be able to burn more then at 4x with my dvd burner… I have tried with DVD-R (cheap brand, Max Max) and right now I bought some DVD+R (Samsung Pleomax). Both brand state that I should be able to burn at 8x.

I’m I buying the wrong format to be able to burn at more then 4x?
Here are some link to my dvd burner. I am using Nero and DVD Decrypter to burn… neither will burn past 4x.

Update: Upgraded fireware from LG site but didnt help so i found an unofficial firmware and updated it and all is good.

With that writer, you should be able to burn discs at 8x. With the official firmware! (not only with the unofficial, which makes you lose the warranty). So, there must be another little problem to find. But once that you already are burning at 8x ... :cool:

It may just be the blank media you bought. I have a 16x burner, bought some 8x media and it only burned @ 4x.I think its just the drive telling you that 4x is the best you'll get without errors.

Try buying a sample pack with differant 8x media, There cheap and then you'll see what works :)

i had this problem once when using dvdshrink. it had set nero to burn at a max of 4x because of the previous media i was using. i went into nero, set it to 8x, and my next dvd burned just fine using dvdshrink. its definitely worth looking into

Checked.... All programs I have tried with are at max and only showed 4x before but now show 8x for dvd+r but still show 4x for dvd-r.... so i guess it could be the media....but before the firmware update the InfoTool from nero would only show 4x but now show 40x... so the firmware did help.
