I recently cloned my PATA boot drive to my SATA drive for when I get my new motherboard. I used Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Tools v11.1 and it said it was sucsessful, but the SATA drive seems to be performing slower than the PATA one. Is this normal at first and will it get better? Also is it normal for problems to occur with some programs after the transfer? MS Word 2002 and MS Frontpage 2002 have to be reactivated but a file is missing to do so.

160GB WD SATA HDD, WD1600JD-22HBB0

For the *Best* and *Clean* performance, you should start over fresh. The longer you keep Windows on the drive, the slower it will perform. That is what I think is happening here; You transferred Windows from one HD to the other.

I was afraid of that. I wanted to do a transfer to avoid having to go through the whole process of backing everything up and then reloading everything which takes a few days to do. It does seem to be going a little faster now, but still a little sluggish compared to the old boot drive.

You could try a repair reinstall of Windows.

I just tried reinstalling MS Word but I am getting the same error I got when i tried to activate it. The error states:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package '511974.MAINSP3ff.msp' in the box below.

Use source:
C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdate11\Cabs\511974

I'm going to try a repair install of Windows next.

Repair didn't work so I just formated the drive and reloaded Windows. Its going to take forever to get everything transfered over to the new drive. :(
