I know this isn't really supposed to be posted here, but I wanted to make sure everyone saw it who needs to (sorry Mods).
If you are using one of my signature images or avatars and are not hosting it yourself, please take a look at THIS THREAD (http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=125937) for some important information.
Thanks,
Stryker :)

Hey, now I don't feel so bad about posting this here because it can be a "general discussion" ;)
Primarily I use Adobe Photoshop and a little bit of ImageReady for the animation. Graphic design is kind of a large portion of my job so I'm pretty much used to it and I learned by playing with the software. These ones took maybe 15-20 minutes to do from scratch (most of the time spent on these kinds of things is just coming up with an initial idea!). I have fun with this stuff so I tinker around all the time. I figured if I'm going to tinker, I might as well tinker usefully for PC Mech!!
Like I always say, it's 20% me and 80% software. I just click stuff!! :D

How do you do that with PS?
Isnt it just for editing and changing photos and doing weird stuff to them?
(I dont have it so I have no clue, I just know I see tons of cool chops all over the internet and they are just changes and additions to existing pictures.)

My goodness no my friend!!!!!!
I use PS maybe 5% of the time to edit existing images/photos. The rest is creating custom graphics and effects. It is an amazing program once you get to know how to use it to it's full potential (which I do not... I have plenty to learn).

Wow, I need to get that, I just need a way to afford it or lower the price tag, without pirating it preferably.

You can purchase Photoshop at a reduced price through your school if you are a student. That is what I plan on doing after my trial runs out.

I heard the price is about $200. That's a break of $400 off the retail price.

Take a look at www.academicsuperstore.com (http://www.academicsuperstore.com/) POC. I've seen it recommended for Photoshop before and you may find a good deal. I've never personally used the site, but it seems pretty solid.
I was lucky enough to get it through work so I have the whole suite for free (well, free for me anyway). :)
Oh, and by the way. I use Photoshop 7.0 right now, but have used Photoshop CS 8 as well and it's quite good. More effects, textures, overlays, etc... than 7.0. Other than that, pretty much identical software though.
