I am assembling my first pc! I bought all new thing except for the motherboard and a old Western Digital 6.3 Gig hard drive. The board I got is a BIOSTAR M7MKA slot A board. I got a new GeForce2 MX AGP graphics card, a new Deer 250 Watt power supply, new RAM, new 800 Mhz Athlon slot A processor, and a a new floppy drive. When I start it up everything goes perfect. The graphics card bios pops up, then the biostar bios comes up. It recognizes the processor, tests the RAM ok, when it begins to attempt to find the ide devices and my hard drive is hooked up the pc crashes and the screen goes blank. If I take the hard drive off it recognizes my burner and other cd rom fine and just sits and waits. It also will not check my floppy drive and if I have a disk in the drive when I reboot it will do the same thing and go blank. I was wondering whats goin on. I read in my manual that the board supports a ultra ATA 66 hard drive. I belive my older hard drive is just regular ATA 66. I tried a different crappy one on this system. It did the same but when I set the jumper to slave it went through and recognized it, but still got me nowhere! Please help, also when it goes through the bios says the battery does not check okay. I tested it with a multimeter and it was like 3.2 V. The hard drives I have tried were all formated and repartioned.
